Sub Orbicularis Oculi Fat Lift
This is an unusual surgery that is required sometimes when there is
extreme laxity of the lower eyelid. In this case, the eyelid must be
raised to the appropriate position by elevating the tissues of the cheek
to help better support the tissues of the eyelid. In most cases, it is
used for looseness of the eyelid, but it may also be used in a cosmetic
circumstance as a "midface lift".
By elevating the cheek, the lower eyelid has support from below in order
to prevent sagging of the lid and better protection of the eye. The
surgery is actually somewhat complicated, but the only incisions
necessary to perform this surgery are made through a small incision in
the outside corner of the eye. The tissues of the cheek are then elevated
from the inside with stitches and attached to the bone at the bottom part
of the orbit.
Dr. Bowden has performed many of these surgeries and will be glad to
discuss this you should this be necessary.
